Best source for how Bitcoin works for scientific paper?

Hi there,

I'm currently writing my Bachelor's thesis on the effects of cryptocurrencies on society and one chapter is explaining how Bitcoin works.

Does anyone know a good and appropriate source (scientific paper, book, …) that explains how Bitcoin works, apart from Satoshi's whitepaper?
