Do other people get it? I live in a fixed rent shared house and I want to move to where I work- Manchester, Uk. Yet the idea of adding bills plus council tax to the staggering rent prices is so new and confusing to me. I’m often falling into my overdraft, and I don’t know what I can even afford. My monthly income is £2.4K yet all the 1 bed places are upwards of a grand. To consider what bills / tax I would need to add on top is so overwhelming. Is renting alone as inaccessible as it feels? Is it better to move now or wait and hope the rent crisis settles
I don’t understand renting / how to know what’s affordable at all

it definitely feels overwhelming at first, especially if you’ve only dealt with fixed rent before….you’re not alone in that, a lot of people hit that same wall when they first try to budget everything separately…..
If your monthly income is 2.4K and the cheapest rent you can find is 1K or more, than yes, it is out of reach.
Maybe try a shared house or having room mates?
mostly Yanks here, try His Majesty’s Financial Sub – /r/ukpersonalfinance https://ukpersonal.finance/flowchart/
