Hello, I’m (18) about to go up to MEPS in a few days to take my ASVAB and medical exam. My question is when do I start utilizing the SCRA, I’m enlisting in the Air Force as active duty and I want to open a proper bank and savings account before Basics and bring down my student loan interest. I don’t have my active duty orders yet, should I wait to receive it after while I’m on DEP?

And before you ask, I did speak to my recruiter but he just pointed me to the SCRA website and user guide. Any advice would be appreciated.

    1. You’ll need active orders. Take care of SCRA stuff after your initial training. Navy Federal or USAA for a bank account. Welcome aboard.

    2. It doesn’t start until the day you leave for BMT. You’ll have to do any SCRA things once you are done with training, as you won’t have access to a computer (mostly).

SCRA has nothing to do with opening bank accounts though. You can do that now.
