Anyone have experience with downgrading their Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card to the Bold – after the Anniversary date to get the Free Night Credit but then downgrading after to get the annual fee refunded? Copilot seems to think it's possible, but I trust nothing it tells me.

There’s also some other discuss on flyertalk and others about keeping after upgrading and cancelling too
Chase usually gives you 30 days after the annual fee posts to downgrade and get a full refund, so timing wise it could work. But they’re pretty strict about product changes on co-branded cards like Marriott – sometimes they’ll only let you close it instead of downgrading to the Bold
I’d call and see what options they give you when you ask about downgrading. Worst case scenario you’re stuck paying the fee or closing the card entirely. Haven’t tried this specific stratgey myself but Chase has been getting tighter with their policies lately
