They are probably going to stick with their winter blend and won’t be able to sell it overseas.

MOSCOW, March 26 (Reuters) – Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Thursday that the country may re-introduce ‌a gasoline export ban if necessary and that he will hold a meeting with oil companies on Friday to discuss the issue.

It exported almost 5 million metric tons, or around 117,120 barrels per day, of gasoline last year, according to industry sources.

Re introduce and low volumes will have minimal if any impact on the oil price.

If that’s the case they’re going to have a hard time profiting off the high prices.

    4. economic warfare 101. china and russia know global supply chains and energy markets are the most fragile point of our system and they are hitting them right where it hurts.

it’s smart game theory but a LOT of people (in every country, but especially in the global south and countries without ready access to hydrocarbons) are going to suffer

this is going to be bigger than covid by an order of magnitude, probably bigger than 2008, maybe bigger than 1929. this is going to bring down governments and the global economy. this is going to cause a liquidity crisis. (which is already starting in the weakest/least scrupulous parts of the market ie private equity/private credit).

this is going to blow up the global debt and derivatives markets. trillions and trillions of dollars are going to disappear so rapidly our heads will spin.

No it’s not. This is only affecting regional areas in eastern europe.

This is not going to be a price shock to the greater world. This will be pricing pressure in europe only.

    6. Without reading an article attached to this, a global ban on exports from Russia seems stupid. Exports is about the only thing they actually make foreign cash on which they desperately need to finance their Ukraine war.

Are they banning global exports, including their biggest customer China? Seems like this would only serve to sour relationships between the 2 and also cost Russia a lot of money.

Or are they just banning normal exports to other countries that weren’t already sanctioning them?

    7. that’s because two of their ports are presently burning through all the gas due to Ukrainian kinetic sanctions. Ukraine controls the flow of russian petrochemicals, not russia

Not sure why the freakout here – the ban is gasoline, not oil. So this shouldn’t have any effect at all on oil prices. I see nothing about Russia banning oil exports – the country would collapse the next day.

    9. Gas, not oil. Russia lacking for internal use, they will ban exports to countries like Belarus

Oh great, more rich dictators joining in on the friday after market close bomb scheme.

But I can live with this one if it means Ukraine has started to do real damage to Putler and his goons.

    11. This is not about crude but benzine/petrol/gasoline/whatever you call it in your country. A type of refined petroleum, exports of which has been restricted by the Kremlin for years now. Little to no impact on global oil prices.

And yet this is legit, though I can’t link Russian sources here because automod nukes the entire comment. Google “запрет на экспорт бензина из России”.

    12. Just waiting for Trump to declare Ukraine a rogue state or enemy of America for causing high pump prices…if that happens the world just needs to close the laptop and call it quits
