So over the past 2 hours Israel and the U.S. have attacked Iran’s power plants and steel factories, and now Yemen is looking to close the Red Sea through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait the same choke point they’ve been threatening to shut down for months. I honestly don’t think Trump realizes what the hell he’s done. Iran’s foreign minister literally said just now that the U.S. talks about negotiations while doing things like this. And as you can tell, markets are basically numb to any of trump claims at this point. I wouldn’t be surprised if oil hits $150 on Monday if both straits end up effectively closed. There’s absolutely no way Iran is going to even talk about peace negotiations now. Like genuinely, why would you attack steel factories if you actually want to negotiate with them?

The only option left at that point would be Trump trying a ground invasion in a few weeks, because I don’t think Iran will accept any deal now. And any deal Iran might want would probably be something Trump and the American political establishment simply won’t accept either. Besides that, more and more countries are already talking about not participating in a ground war. And a solely U.S. ground invasion of a country surrounded by mountains isn’t something that happens in a day. The only silver lining here is that other countries might open their own separate negotiation channels and reach deals that leave Israel and the U.S. out of it and by Monday more of their allies start backing out and instead push for a deal with Iran just to stabilize their countries situation.

to all the people who have said, “*doesn’t really matter voting for president – it doesn’t really impact me anyway*”

Nah oil supply shock won’t send the world to the stone ages.

Thats gonna be what happens when China takes Taiwan. We’ll be rocked back to prehistoric times.

If the Houthi’s close the Suez Canal that’s 30% of the worlds oil shut down. Right now with the Strait of Hormuz being shuttered it’s approximately 20%. The canal approximates up to 10% of the worlds daily oil trade

The issue at the core is Israel and Iran view eachother as an existential threat. If there is to be peace with Iran, I feel they would want US to stop backing Israel. This is why Israel seems to be escalating when discussions of peace are brought up.

Iran stated explicitly they want western influence out of the middle east. This is not going to happen without a regime change.

America about to make some money!! With Venezuela oil and us oil, they will have close to full control

    7. Gee, sort of like this was the analysis done by every administration for the past 50 years — and why we never touched Iran since the 70s.

There is no way out other than an invasion to force a regime change. Trump let his ego go too far. He has lied during every press conference he’s had since the war. He’s a bold faced, arrogant, *wrong* liar who has been manipulating the market for him and his affiliates own gains. Ask just about anyone who has done trading since this has happened.

Iran will not back down and it fundamentally only takes a few rogue Iranians to threaten to close the strait. It doesn’t take an army to do that, but it takes an army and then some to fight against that if you’re unable to negotiate. And that is where we are.

I continuously ask myself why would he decide to do this, despite it being well known to be one of the worst mistakes the US could do militarily? What gain does he possibly have? The US may have *long* term interests in stabilizing the Middle East, sure, but he decided to do it, and do it now. I think there are two obvious reasons. Money and *** files. Nothing else makes sense.

Someone should run with their campaign promise to be throwing them in prison. They ruin everything for their own gain. It’s abhorrent.

I just want to know more about the track record of the @ BRICSinfo twitter account

    9. Just clarify there isnt really a “Yemen” at this point. It’s a very broken apart state

If they start blocking the red sea, its time for people to start checking their emergency supplies and thinking about a USA with a pretty decent amount of civil unrest being a possibility.

Unfortunately, the terrorist state, Israel dragged us into this and doesn’t want it to end. Truly one of the biggest fuckups in presidential history.

Yemen military or the Houthis, they are two completely different things. Yemen government is against the Houthis

    13. Trump should release the Epstein files to distract us from what he’s done.

Also – don’t normalise Trump talk – its not a ‘deal’.

Don’t leave out the part where America and Israel attacked them and murdered them for no reason and killed their religious leader.
