AI data centers need power that never goes off. Solar and wind can't guarantee that. Nuclear, natural gas, and hydro can.
One AI query uses 10x the electricity of a Google search. At billions of queries a day, the grid math stops working for renewables without battery storage at a scale we don't have yet.
Institutional capital has been quietly rerating power assets for 18 months. Nuclear operators signing direct behind-the-meter deals with Microsoft and Meta. Midstream gas getting re-valued as "always-on" infrastructure. Photonics companies being repriced as energy efficiency plays.
I wrote up the full thesis here if anyone wants to dig in: bigmarketreport.com/analysis/post-green-pivot-hard-power-energy-war-2026
Happy to discuss in the comments. Curious whether others are seeing the same rotation.
AI is killing the green energy trade and replacing it with Hard Power

Been watching this shift too from my route – lots of new data centers going up and they’re all hooking into the existing grid hard, not waiting around for battery tech to catch up
Makes sense why my energy stocks have been doing better than expected lately, especially the gas pipeline ones. Kinda wild how AI went from being this “clean tech” darling to basically demanding we keep the lights on 24/7 no matter what
Since when is nuclear not green? We should be collectively pushing for big tech to fix our broken power grid. Want a data center in the north east? Cool, better make sure winter storms can’t take out the power, same with hurricanes in the south east and Texas in general. Investing wise energy is a great choice we’re at our limits currently and demand more every day.
Love it. Market economics is the only way to allocate resources efficiently. The right answer is, and always was, nuclear. “Green” energy was a scam by anti-capitalists who wanted to steal political power from the oil and gas industry.
