JUST IN: Yemeni Houthis officially enter the war against the US and Israel in support of Iran, and threaten to shut the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The narrow chokepoint between Yemen and Africa that handles 10% of all global seaborne oil trade.

It’s not closed until a ship gets hit. For now, it’s just ‘closed’.

It will be very interesting to see how traffic reacts.

    2. Lots more than oil goes through there. If they attack anything there the rest of the world might get involved.

Well correct me if I am wrong …. but isnt it kinda atleast partially pointless – as it was the ships originating from the gulf states in the first place that were traveling through that on their way to europe. So If Strait of Hormuz is closed Bab al Mandeb is not such a big deal anymore.

    5. I thought nobody was really using this route anymore anyway? Since the last time the Houthis did this I thought shops were avoiding it?
