Hi guys! Few questions I have below. This would be my first time getting an entry travel credit card. Right now my credit score is 670. I know of the more universal cards that offer great rewards such as the CSP or AMEX Gold or C1 Venture, and are deciding between getting one of those or if I should go with an airline specific card, such as AA Advantage or the Southwest one. I also know recently the changes to the CSP is going to be devaluing it with their Hyatt points and etc as well so that is going into my decision. I wouldn’t apply for a card for a while until I get my credit a little bit higher, but I want to have a goal in mind for when I am eligible to apply. I’m not too interested at the moment on the points going to hotels, it would be more for airlines and flights. And so my question is are the airline specific cards going to be more worth it in my case, or would it be wiser just to go with a broader travel card like the Chase or Amex? Also, if it would be beneficial for me to have the airline card, which should I go with? I know AA is offering a 80k bonus point sign on, and Southwest is offering a 50k. Both annual fees come to about 100 bucks. Currently I’m thinking of getting the AA card, due to the larger bonus, and also I had heard that American typically has multiple flights daily no matter where you are, so you can always catch another if the flight is delayed or you miss it. What are the other airlines that operate similarly, and is there an airline you think is better than AA in other regards? Also a few things to note is I am a college student, and my monthly spending is not too high as it usually goes to eating out and shopping. I want a card to utilize my spending and to earn points, so that when I travel I can save on flights by using my points. Thanks for reading and let me know your experiences!
