Missing SBI FD After Grandfather’s Death – How to Trace & Claim?

Hi everyone,

I recently found out from my father that my grandfather had an FD of around ₹10 lakhs in SBI under his own name, with my father as the nominee.

My grandfather passed away in 2019. After his death, my father tried to locate the FD documents but couldn’t find them. He even checked with a contact in SBI, but they couldn’t trace anything at that time.

From what we know, my grandfather had created 3 separate FDs – one for each of his sons. My uncle (elder son) had the documents for his FD and was able to redeem it. However, my father and his other brother couldn’t find any paperwork related to theirs.

I wanted to understand:

1. How can we confirm whether such an FD actually exists?
2. If it does exist, what is the process to trace and claim it without having the original documents?
