Just turned 21, I'm going to graduate college in 2027. I've been living with my parents the whole time and have a pretty good deal, my car didn't need a loan and the only debts I have right now are student loans. I work at taco bell and am planning getting a masters out of college. Never taken a loan besides FAFSA before. I want to build credit and responsibility. My parents are awful with their money and thus told me to never get a credit card as it's a "trap".
* Current credit cards you are the primary account holder of: Chime card, limit only what I am paid, takes the money out like a debit and pays it back at the end of the month automatically. Frustrating so far as the big purchases I HAVE to take out of savings instead of working more hours in advance. Really hurting me as of recently as I'm trying to get new tires and car maintenance.
* FICO Scores with source: Experian 664
* Oldest credit card account age with you as primary name on the account: 2 years and 7 months
* Number of personal credit cards approved for in the past 6 months: 0
* Number of personal credit cards approved for in the past 12 months: 1
* Number of personal credit cards approved for in the past 24 months: 1?
* Annual income $: I work at Taco Bell for 13$ an hour, so, monthly is about 1k-2k, yearly probably 15k
* OK with category-specific cards?: No, would like just one or two
* OK with rotating category cards?: No
* Estimate average monthly spend in the categories below. Only include what you can pay by credit card.
* Dining $: 60
* Groceries $: 150
* Gas $: 30
* Travel $: None usually, unless I am seeing my boyfriend, which is 3 times a year for 1k-2k
* Do you plan on using this card abroad for a significant length of time (study abroad, digital nomad, expat, extended travel)?: No
* Any other categories (examples: phone/internet, insurance) or stores (example: Amazon) with significant, regular credit card spend (the more you specify, the better): $200, 50 for subs/services, 50 for hygiene/health/pharmacy, 100 whatever like clothes or books
* Any other significant, regular credit card spend you didn't include above?: no
* Can you pay rent by credit card? If yes, list rent amount and if there's a fee for paying by credit card: I live with my parents.
PURPOSE
* What's the purpose of your next card (choose ONE)?: First credit card.
* If you answered "first credit card", are you an authorized user on any other cards? Chime card * Do you have any cards you've been looking at? No

your chime card is basically just a debit card with extra steps, not really building credit the way a traditional card would. with a 664 score and steady income you should qualify for some decent starter cards
discover it or capital one quicksilver are solid picks – discover gives you cashback categories that rotate but also has a flat rate option, and they’re pretty good about approving people in your situation. just make sure you pay the full statement balance every month and you’ll be golden
