– every industry nation has lost ground to China the last years, this not about energy prices, it has been about wages
– Germany has energy prices double the size of the US, but it has a very decentralized industrial grid as well, what turns the grid expensive; furthermore it has one of the most modern grids in the world, with 20 minutes of blackouts a year; furthermore the energy industry is huge by now in the country and as powerful as the automotive industry, creating thousands of jobs
– Germany has become a net importer of like 2 % of their whole consumption, because Europe has a spot market for electricity and norwegian water power has turned out to be very cheap the last years, it has nothing to do with capacity
– dependancy of Norway as bad as of Russia? Does the author even know Norway ? With ever more renewables in the grid and lots of unused french nuclear power by now it even becomes an option to produce hydrogen and substitute LNG
Now the real problems:
– Redispatch, you have lots of renewables in the north but dont get it to the south, so you have to substitute with gas plants
– you have so much uncontrolled solar from private households in the grid that you need more consumers to stabilize the grid, like electric cars
– there are myriads of projects planned on battery storage, yet the current minister of economy is from the gas industry and makes life hard for renewables
– the typical German always wants to drive combustion and thinks electric cars aint real cars
