My husband and I are getting older. We are stable financially. My husband had a stroke 2 months ago, and we have suddenly realized that we’re just one more health issue away from forgetting to pay the property taxes or being able to understand how to use Turbotax. How do people manage this as they get older? Is this a thing CPAs do? Or who?
How to manage basic finance activities when you get (really) old?

Automate as much as you can to pay bills and invest. Make sure you both have your will (trust would be better) set up and it’s clear who does what and who gets what. Prepare an Advanced Healthcare Directive for each of you so emergency crews and doctors know what you want.
Do you have someone you trust to be your POA if your spouse can no longer make decisions for you? Can they take care of your affairs? A CPA may be the way to go if you don’t have anyone.
