Hi all, I’m 19 and I want to open up a credit card for the first time and start building credit. I tried to do pre approval for both discover and citi bank but they said I wasn’t eligible for anything. I am not interested in a secure card… any ideas for what I should do?

Tough luck. Cap1 is friendly to those new to credit; you can also try a starter card with who you bank with (if not Citi). A secured card might be your best bet as it will somewhat teach you how to use it correctly as well.
Did you apply for Discover student card?
If so, I recommend banking with a credit union and signing up soon thereafter for their credit card. Probably no rewards but easier to get. Then try again with Discover in a year.
