I just started tracking our monthly food cost from the grocery store. I mainly shop at Walmart and I did not separate food from household items. We typically eat breakfast and dinner at home. We are a family of two and spent $425.10 for the month of March. This would also include things like paper towels, toilet paper etc.
I have no clue what it should cost or what a normal amount would be. This seems fairly good to me. Does anyone have any suggestions or is this pretty frugal?
What’s your monthly food/house supply cost? I just started tracking.

That’s a deal!
We spend $800 a month for the same thing.
Wife, I and the cat
£60-80 per week purchased with 12% cash back card
The key with these budgetary items is cost per person. 425.10 for two people is fairly decent, could maybe be better, but not *bad* at all. I’d still pack lunches though. Much cheaper and healthier.
I’m very frugal. My family of three is always under $100 USD a week.
Ours is close to $600/month for two people and that is just food – but I’m also a food access and retail expert by profession so I’m painfully aware that the grocery chain in my area is one of the most expensive in the country despite this not being a high-income area. I’m also a runner and I eat an alarming amount of carbs.
about $600/month for food for two. for some things i will buy the cheapest option, but for many ingredients, i don’t.
$650 a month two adults, not counting other stuff as groceries. You should try to seperate the different expense categories.
$600-$700 for a family of 3. This includes lunches though
That’s very reasonable for a family of 2 … below the national average.
I spend around $360 just for myself last month. (But I did have some visitors for about a week, so the number is inflated a bit from the usual)
I average $170 (CAD) per month. Single, no kids, no pets, rural Quebec.
I don’t know if my amount is high or not. I feel it’s high because I don’t really check for deals I just buy what I need when I need it, but also I buy very little in the first place.
Most of non-perishables are bought in bulk in Costco and fresh consumables (fruits, veggies, diary, eggs, etc.) are bought at my local grocery store which is very expensive. Costco also includes things like personal care item and non-prescriptions medication so I guess it’s skew the average a bit higher too.
