I’ve been using the same 2% cash back card for pretty much everything for the past couple years. It’s simple, I don’t think about categories, I just swipe and move on. I never carry a balance and autopay takes care of it, so it’s been completely low effort.

Lately though I’ve been going down the credit card rabbit hole and now I feel like I’m doing something wrong by keeping it simple. Points, transfer partners, signup bonuses, rotating categories. It all sounds good in theory, but also kind of exhausting to manage.
I have some money saved up and I’m not trying to squeeze every last dollar out of my spending, but part of me feels like I’m leaving value on the table by not optimizing more. At the same time, I know myself and I like systems that don’t require constant attention. I don’t want to turn everyday spending into something I have to think about all the time.

For people who’ve gone from simple setups to more optimized ones, did it actually feel worth the extra effort or did you end up missing the simplicity?

Using one simple card feels right but I keep feeling like I’m missing out
