I could really use some advice here because I’m honestly at a loss.
I was a customer with T-Mobile over two years ago. At the time, they gave me a “free” tablet, which I never used. When I canceled my phone plan, I assumed everything on the account was closed—but apparently the tablet line (and data plan) never got canceled.
Fast forward to now: I’ve been getting charged monthly for almost two years without realizing it. I fully own that I didn’t catch it sooner—it was tied to an account I don’t check often and I don’t usually set up autopay from that account.
About a month ago, I finally noticed and started trying to fix it. I called customer service multiple times, but they couldn’t help me because I don’t have my account PIN. I tried every PIN I could think of—no luck. I also don’t have access to the online account, even though they’ve continued emailing me and charging me this whole time.
I eventually went into a physical store, and they were able to cancel the tablet line. I thought that resolved things since I stopped seeing new charges.
Now I’m getting emails saying I have a past due balance on a canceled account. I still can’t access the account to pay it, and when I call support, they again won’t help me without the PIN.
To make things worse, I’ve now started getting calls from a debt collector. This all escalated within about a month. The last email I got said I had until April 16 to pay the balance, so I don’t understand why it would already be sent to collections. When I asked a T-Mobile rep, they said they don’t even see it as being in collections on their end.
I’m really confused and frustrated:
– How can I be charged on an account I no longer have access to?
– Why wasn’t everything canceled when I originally closed my plan?
– Can this actually impact my credit?
– What’s the best way to resolve this if customer service won’t help me without a PIN? At this point, I’m willing to pay the balance if I absolutely have to, but I feel like this situation shouldn’t have happened in the first place—and I don’t even know how to pay it given I can’t access the account.
Has anyone dealt with something like this or have advice on what to do next?
Charged for 2 years on a canceled T-Mobile account—now in collections and I can’t access anything. What should I do?

Contact tforce on Facebook, they have powers regular reps do not, to handle rare situations.
All I can say is good luck. I cancelled my cell service with them 2 months ago. They immediately sent me a bill in the mail for the full month. I paid via check and in the interim O started getting debt collection texts. Keep in mind this was exactly 2 days after the cycle closed and my check was in the mail.
Fast forward 6 days ahead, check is cashed, but still getting texts and now emails about collection.
I called them and was like what the fuck?! Also they billed and cashed a $68 full month charge for a partial month of service which only cost like $37 and change, but had a 15$ late fee tacked onto it.
I told them check their accounts and discharge whatever Tom-fuckery debt they claimed. They wouldn’t even speak to me because I had forgotten the PIN I set up 8 years prior. I told them to escalate and get this shit settled.
Long story short, it’s been 2 months, T-Mobile still has $15 of my money they are calling a “balance forward” and are still sending me monthly invoices showing my balance forward credit.
Like seriously, they waited all of 2 days to turn over what they thought was a past due balance, but they’ll keep my money forever I guess. I figure I’ll wait a few more cycles so they can keep wasting money on paper, postage, and time, then I’ll request a check paid out to me.
