We have two window a/cs in our unit. Last time it took me about 3-4 cans of foaming a/c coil cleaner to clean both.

I paid about 5-6 dollars a can, now the prices have doubled, about 10$ a can. Cleaning them gets out gunk, mold, and makes them noticeably more efficient. I have gotten better about maintenance but they could use a deeper clean, like with the foaming cleaners. That worked out really well last time.

I'm several stories up and I cannot remove the units. Nor do I have outdoor space to hose them down.

I had budget the old price, and $40 is a lot of money for me. Is there a more frugal option to the foaming in window that you guys found worked well? DIY options?

    1. An air compressor from harbor freight is not that expensive. Get one sith a tank that can store up  compressed air, and a blower attachment.

you could try a mix of vinegar and water in a spray bottle for a DIY cleaner. it won’t have the same foam action, but it can help cut through the grime without the hefty cost. also, using a soft brush or cloth to scrub can make a big difference too.

Window units are removed by pulling them inside the house while the outter case remains l attached to the outside of the house.
Why can’t you remove the unit and wash it in the shower?
