Assuming – over the next two or three weeks – the US and Israel are furthered battered militarily and economically, and the US suffers terrible casualties from a foolhardy Iran incursion, my title's likely the best the world can hope for. Humiliating for an aware person, but I think Trump's far gone enough that he'll just move on to some other foreign escapade.

So, if Trump simply withdraws all US troops from the Gulf and Iraq, Iran quietly agreeing to stand down for 48-72 hours, leaving battered and destroyed US bases behind forever, where does that leave the Middle East?

The Strait of Hormuz will be Iran's permanent tollbooth. Internally and externally weak Gulf states will need to quickly accommodate to Iran, the local hegemon. Israel won't be able to touch Iran anymore, but for the moment will stay strong in its immediate neighborhood. Gas and oil prices will drop but not plummet.

Fog of war is thick still but these are my educated guesses.

Trump can only retreat, leaving behind a new Gulf, a new Middle East

Your choice of words, i.e. “further battered militarily”, “terrible casualties” and “foolhardy Iran incursion” makes this sound so comically propaganda-esque that I can’t take it seriously. As far as I can tell, the US has lost a total of 13 military personnel… am I missing something here?

Please do everyone a favor and get off Reddit. None of your educated (dumb) guesses are based in reality.

    3. Saudi and the UAE would invade a battered and rump state of Iran if America decided to leave the region.

Saudi Arabia would expand their east to west pipeline and port facilities in the Red Sea to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, rendering the toll fees moot once completed. Kuwait/Bahrain/UAE will likely chip in construction costs for access.

    5. Trust me… if we put boots on the ground, we aren’t leaving in a couple of weeks. This was obviously written by someone that has zero idea about how any of this works and zero idea about America’s actual military power

    6. Logic says US either stays or leaves. At some point unless the US stays forever, they must leave.
Trump seems bored with the whole thing and wants a new shiny toy to play with.
The “get your own oil “ shows what it was always about: Oil ( hint see Venezuela).
Expect the US to leave,no doubt claiming a wondrous victory greater than has ever been seen before, a victory worthy of Trump getting just biggest gold medal ever made.
