Hello,

I am currently contemplating downgrading my AMEX Gold to Green. My current setup includes the AMEX Platinum + Gold + BBP, Chase Sapphire Reserve + OG Freedom + Unlimited, and BILT Palladium + Alaska Ascent Card. I have recently used the Palladium + Alaska card as my main setup and appreciate the simplicity of it. I also use the credits on my Sapphire Reserve and AMEX Platinum naturally so I am not really thinking about meddling with those. That leaves me with downgrading the Gold as canceling it feels like I would regret it down the line. Any thoughts?

Would you downgrade the AMEX Gold?

Not one card listed can top the 4x dining/groceries from the Amex Gold. You have the Amex Trifecta! The Amex Green totally clashes with your line up. Keep the Gold! Just my humble opinion, if a card had to go, get rid of that diluted CSR! But I am bias!

Yes and get the Citi strat premier. 3X dining and grocery is not as good but the fee is only $95. Citi points are still very valuable.

The question is how many of the Gold credits do you use and how many of the Green credits would you use naturally if you downgraded? Depending on the math it could make sense to downgrade or perhaps cancel the Gold altogether and get a card with similar multipliers from a different bank.

I’d probably just close it altogether. You’ve got enough annual fees to worry about.

Green adds nothing to your setup. You beat every category with other cards and you get Clear with the Platinum. I’d just cancel.
