Current credit card: Discover Student
FICO Score: 756
Oldest account: 4 years 8 months
Income: $75000
Average monthly spending:
Dining $100
Groceries $500
Gas $120
Bills (no rent) $300
No business cards
Purpose:
No Annual Fee.
I am mainly looking for a new card because I am traveling internationally. The last time I went abroad, my Discover was not accepted ANYWHERE, so I need something that is extremely reliable overseas. I only travel abroad once a year, but when I do, I need it to work.
This card will also be used to put any bills, that I won't get charged fees on, to maintain my credit. I don't ever purchase things that I couldn't just buy outright, so interest rates and fees aren't a concern.
Category or general:
I have no preference either way.
Thanks for any help!

visa or mastercard are gonna be your best bets for international acceptance – discover is pretty much useless outside the US like you found out
for no annual fee cards with solid international acceptance, chase freedom unlimited or capital one quicksilver are solid choices. both give decent cashback and work basically everywhere. citi double cash is another good option if you want straight 2% back on everything
just make sure whatever you pick has no foreign transaction fees, that’ll eat into your spending real quick when you’re abroad
You need a card with no FTF. My second card was a Wells Fargo Autograph and it fills that void well plus 3% in a lot of categories. I’d suggest that or the Capital One Savor. Great grocery card, you can put dining spend on it too, and it has no FTF.
Which one you go with depends on if travel or grocery spend is bigger for you imo and if you will want one of the Cap One Venture cards in the future.
Go with the Fidelity Rewards. It is a Visa Signature credit card with no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee, and it earns unlimited 2% cash back on all purchases. It also has a $100 Global Entry/TSA pre-check credit that renews every four years, a $75k secondary rental car insurance policy that becomes primary when used abroad, and lost luggage reimbursement. If you use the right link you can get a $150 sign-up bonus as well.
You’ll have to open a Fidelity account to deposit your rewards, for which I recommend the Cash Management account. It functions like a high-yield checking account, has no fees or minimums, and includes a Visa debit card with no foreign transaction fee, no ATM withdrawal fee, and free unlimited worldwide ATM fee reimbursements. Fidelity credit card + debit card is a super solid duo for international travel, they’re one of the best ecosystems for this.
