A little context, I’m a 23 year old has really good credit at the moment and I have 7 cards all in good standing and a pretty big combined credit limit (around 48,000) , my first card however is a petal 1, that in 2023 was forced upgraded to a Petal 1 Rise which on the website has a AF of 59 dollars a month, I called and they said that my upgrade was actually mandatory since the old cards were obsolete and instead of 59 a year I would have a monthly membership card of 8 dollars, I don’t use the card and it has a limit of around 1,800 and I feel like it’s stupid to pay an AF for a card I don’t use, I did also open a Discover it cash-back card 3 months after I first applied for the Petal Card.

Should I close my first credit card that has been open since 2020??

    1. It’s fine to close, it will stay on your age for the next 10 years. No reason to be paying that much for a card you don’t use.

    2. As the other guy said the closed account should stay open. But also unless your planning to get a mortgage or car loan soon your credit score doesn’t really matter. The $60 you losing each month does matter a lot more.
