I purchased a $1,400 phone through Best Buy. It was delivered last Thursday. When I went outside to pick up the box, it felt extremely light. Because of that, I had someone record me opening it.

When I opened the package, there was a sealed phone box inside. I picked it up, and it also felt unusually light. I removed the seal and found that there was nothing inside.

I filed a claim with everyone involved and waited to hear back from Best Buy. About a week later, I received an email from their investigation department asking for more information. I sent them the video, but I woke up to find that the investigation had been closed without any refund or replacement. I contacted best buy again and they opened up another case with their back office department. What are my next steps? Should I do a charge back?

    1. Definitely chargeback time. Best Buy’s investigation team is trash and they’re basically telling you to pound sand at this point. You’ve got video evidence of opening an empty box which is solid proof, and you gave them a reasonable chance to make it right.

File the dispute with your credit card company and include that video. They’ll handle it way better than Best Buy’s joke of an investigation department. I’ve seen this exact scenario play out before and the CC company sided with the customer every time when there’s actual evidence like you have.

Don’t waste more time going in circles with Best Buy’s back office – they already showed you how they handle these situations.
