As a frugal person, I feel like I've always been prioritising extra work, or doing extra job, even if it's entry level, in order to earn extra cash. Even working $20 an hour for extra money seems a lot to me, and I would rather do that, then spend 1-2 hours at the gym,. I would rather make an extra $50-$100 a day, and skip the gym/exercise. I often think of that as a ‘free meal’ or like a nice reward, such as allowing me to buy stuff I want. I like the extra money, which motivates me to cover shifts instead of sticking to my gym schedule. Is anyone else the same, and can relate with me?
Would you rather WORK EXTRA HOURS/SHIFTS or GO TO THE GYM/EXERCISE?

Sure, as long as you’re still generally healthy. Poor health costs a lot of money.
I would rather do basically anything else than spend 1-2 hours at the gym…
Tbh, I do what lifts my spirit. If making money will truly make me happy then I prioritize that.
At one point though, I got to a point where I felt like I didn’t feel good after I ate and things like that and I absolutely took the time and money to workout and eat better. And I stayed frugal because someone gifted me the two cookbooks I wanted so it was a win for me. We love free things lol
I prefer the gym. Even when I’m tired from my 10 hours shift, I still go. I like money too but spending time improving myself mentally and physically is worth more than the 50 bucks I’ll earn if I stayed for the extra 2 hours overtime at work each day
I go to the gym after work. On my way home and it’s a small splurge but one hour of work pays for the month. I don’t see it as an expense but an investment in my health
I work at a warehouse lifting 3k cases a day, knocks out both for me
Are you regularly active in any other way that isn’t at work? If not, then yes, the gym.
Why not both? I work 6 days a week 48+ hrs each week and still find time to fit in 6 hrs of exercise every week.
Gym
gym, health is wealth
I use my time on the stationary bike to do life admin things like taxes, deal-hunting, paper-pushing tasks, etc.
Totally, man, I got you. In fact, a couple years back I also stopped sleeping. Why the fuck would I sleep if 8h of sleep times 20 means $160 bucks more per day?
I’m guessing older generation extra work… younger generation gym.., I’m old… as a young adult having money meant an easier life… groceries , gas, and maybe a cheap burger out…. There was no gym membership. My generation gets alot of criticism but we saw our ourselves as survivors and money was the way to thrive and not just survival. Younger generations now value experiences over money, leisure over work and money isn’t the first thing they strive for…. Until they don’t have money and wonder why? Then blaming the system for not getting things they think are a human right.
Exercise! It’s slowly becoming my hobby. 🙂 If I were to work extra, it would need to be $$$$$. Like my neighbor who still works her waitress job since college on Fri/Sat because she makes $300+ for like 5 hours of extra work a week.
My morning run is non-negotiable because it is essential for my mental health, so I would not trade that for the opportunity to make extra money.
What about a more physical job over an office based job with a small decrease in wages? I personally would choose the physical job. I have seen healthy people become unhealthy as soon as are in office jobs!
wait until you learn how expensive healthcare is and the toll it takes on your body to not exercise!
If you’re asking this question you’re not working out right. My workout is laps in a pool and I can’t wait to do it. My dad who is 74 hits the driving range and also walks. My sister bikes.
Make your workout something you enjoy and you’ll never even consider working instead.
Gym, I quit jobs because the hours they promised were actually more and it was taking time from my workouts and sleep. But this was salary so it was a lot easier to walk away. No interest in working all day
Do the workouts, by the time you are my age it will have been worthwhile.
In my 20’s: as much overtime as possible to load up the brokerage.
In my 30’s: can’t force me to work another minute.
Keep stacking that cash homie.
If there is absolute need then take the shifts. Otherwise get your gym time. Your health is your number 1 investment. Taking care of your body pays off until the day you die and makes life better with or without wealth.
I like being frugal because it means I have more time to spend on things that actually interest me. I like buying second-hand items for reasons of depreciation and efficiency; but the whole point is to have more time to myself.
Anything to avoid the gym. 😅
Money isn’t everything. I know, it’s a hard concept to grasp.
PLEASE DON’T SHOUT.
