Just want to share a simple win. Normally I like to be supportive of our vet since I know they have big student loans to pay off. But they were being a nonstop hassle about our cat’s allergy med. (Took awhile to fill it, I had to call every time, and wanted overly frequent office visits to “prescribe” it.) Well, I finally searched the name and dose. OH. Turns out it’s over the counter at the local drug store. For a quarter of the price. The pills are identical in size, color and markings. Made in the same factory. They were probably buying them at the same drugstore and repackaging them for me.

So — don’t be intimidated by a weird drug name! Find out more about it.

PS sorry this was the closest flair. Need a “pets” one.

Your pet’s meds may be OTC! Then you can get them cheaper at the drugstore.

that’s a solid win! always worth checking if you can score meds cheaper elsewhere, especially when they’re the same ones your vet is selling you. big shoutout for doing your research!

Costco saves me a ton on heartworm.

Pharmacies take Goodrx on pets, too. My animals take a lot of medicine.

My vet will always tell me if a med is available elsewhere. Sometimes I still buy from her other times I buy separately. Whatever is more convenient at the time is typically what I go with.

Our vet is great about giving us a prescription to take to the pharmacy. My elderly dachshund’s gabapentin prescription was filled at Walgreen’s. It was pretty funny to get mailings from Walgreen’s addressed to Rosie The Dog.

Our cat was prescribed medication for nausea recently after an injury needing pain medicine. Got home and it was the exact same pill as the 6 bottles of zofran in the nightstand prescribed to my husband after his surgery.

My cat has allergies. Vet said give him Zyrtec, 5mg. The human one works fine.

So we got zyrtec and halve it. I trust that vet now.
