im a US citizen that is a freshman in college. I am on full financial aid so i do not have any costs and do not pay any tuition or rent. i have never taken a loan out either. i only have a checking account under wells fargo that i use as my debit card.

i make about $50 an hour from my internship so roughly $36000 for the year. I keep getting denied from student cards. i've tried discover and capitol one's student cards. anyone got any idea why and what i else i can try?

    1. you’re definitely answering something wrong that’s causing a no, I’d try a different one (discover and cap1 are the same company now) and use their preapproval tool

    2. Might try going to your Wells Fargo bank and picking up a secured card from them (this will require an upfront deposit). Also, it would be worth checking your credit score just to make sure someone hasn’t stolen your identity. I had the same issue starting out. It sucks cause there aren’t any good benefits, but you just need to tough it out until you have a decent credit history.

    3. After being denied 2 times and not having any other credit I would wait at least 6 months before trying again. If you keep applying you’ll keep getting denied. A secured card maybe be the way to go tho at this point.
