I don't want anything complicated though I have a really hard trouble understanding all this terminology and what cards fit with my needs. My needs are traveling and maximizing my value in travel and common every day categories. (Dining, Groceries, and everything else)

Capital One Venture X might be good option for you – the travel rewards are pretty straightforward and it covers dining/travel at solid rates without too much complicated category stuff to track.
