Hey all — looking for some advice on what credit card to get next.

I’ve had credit for about 8 years and currently use the Chase Freedom Unlimited as my main card. Great credit score.

I don’t travel a ton, so I’m not super focused on travel perks. My biggest spend category is definitely dining — restaurants, takeout, etc.

From what I understand, a lot of cards offer around 3–4% back (or equivalent points) on dining, with some going even higher depending on the setup . I’ve seen a few names thrown around but not sure what actually makes the most sense. I’m honestly a little lost lol.

    Thanks!

Get a Citi Custom Cash and use it exclusively for dining expenses. As long as dining as the top spend category on it each month, it’ll get 5% cash back on the category (up to $500 of spending in said category each month, after which it drops off to the regular 1% rate till the next).

If you can use the benefits and want to stick with Chase, then the Sapphire Preferred offers 3x on dining for a $95 fee (but doesn’t net you anything on dining beyond your current CFU, just makes the points more valuable if you ever do travel).

If you want a very high fee, but a lot of coupons for specific places/items, the Amex Gold offers 4x. MR points aren’t very useful for cash or non-travel.

The C1 Savor has 3x dining for no fee, which can be cash back or pooled with other C1 travel points.

If you are *already* a Verizon customer, then the Synchrony Verizon Card has 4% cash back for no fee. Probably not worth becoming a new Verizon customer just for this.

The Citi Custom Cash can also offer a no-fee 5%, but it’s capped at $500.

Dining doesn’t have as many 5% options as Gas and Grocery so a lot of people use their first Citi Custom Cash on this category. It’s possible to obtain multiples if needed through product change
