I have a card setup that I'm mostly satisfied with for my wife and I. However, I want to get something higher than 3X on grocery spend, which is our largest category spend on a monthly basis.

    • Current cards:
      • Discover IT – 09/2012 – closed last year in good standing
      • Chase Prime Visa – 04/2021 – $9,400
      • Chase Freedom Unlimited – 01/2024 – $10,400
      • Chase Sapphire Preferred – 04/2025 – $12,700
      • Chase Freedom Flex – 08/2025 – $15,000
      • Citi Custom Cash – 09/2025 – $4,500
      • Bilt 1.0 (now WF Autograph) – 11/205 – $3,000
      • Bilt Palladium – 02/2026 – $13,125
      • Hyatt Personal Card – 02/2026 – $15,000
      • AmEx Blue Business Plus- 03/2026 – $10,000
    • FICO Score: 779
    • Oldest account age: 13 years, 7 months
    • Chase 5/24 status: don't care about 5/24 anymore
    • Income: $148,000
    • Average monthly spend and categories:
      • Dining $200-300
      • Groceries: $650
      • Gas: $200
      • Travel: $0 most months
      • Non-category spend: $3,000-3,500
    • Open to Business Cards: Yes
    • Purpose of next card: Points for Grocery spend
    • Cards I'm Considering:
      • AmEx Gold (Personal)
      • Bilt Obsidian (for the wife)
      • Citi Strata Premier (unlock 1:1 transfer partners for Custom Cash)

I live in GA, and ATL is my home airport. So I'm considering diving more into the Amex ecosystem to at least have Delta as a direct transit option. I know that I can transfer to Flying Blue or Virgin and book Delta flights for less points, but I haven't tried it yet and wonder about availability. Strata Premier is also an option as well.

Our travel habits are mostly domestic. Luxury/Aspirational travel isn't a priority, we moreso care about getting there and seeing the area than how luxurious our hotel is or if we're flying first class. We might do an international trip once a year, and more often than not l, that trip will be to the Caribbeans (though we are going to Japan next year).

I just want to hear some other opinions to help weigh out how to go about this next card. Open to ideas on how to better optimize my setup as well.

Feels like it’s less about chasing the absolute highest grocery multiplier and more about picking one solid option that fits how you actually redeem, then just running all that spend through it and keeping everything else simple so it doesn’t get overcomplicated.

It’s free to look. VS and AF accounts are free.

    3. You got the Amex blue cash preferred, you already getting 6% cash back on groceries

    4. I highly recommend the Amex Gold, as it will give you 4X on grocery spend and at restaurants.

Amex Gold and Amex Business Gold for 4x grocery, Dining, Gas and Cell phone is the best combo IMO.
