I was very well behaved all throughout 2025, with my only credit card activity being:
- Upgrade CSP to CSR (I was not eligible for a SUB and wanted the new benefits with the lower AF)
- Applied for the CIU (had some large purchases/contractor work)
So, 1 new inquiry but no new accounts. That left me at 3/24 and 0/12 going into Q1 2026 with only that single inquiry in the prior 12 months. But, I knew the BILT transition was going to force me into a new revolving account in Q1, so I figured I'd cluster a couple other applications before that hit:
- BILT Palladium (50k)
- Citi Strata Elite (snagged the 100k offer)
- AA Globe (elevated 90k offer)
That was all in February. But, with the BILT still not hitting as of early April and just now finishing up the three SUBs above, I got the coveted 75k SUB offer for an Amex BBP. No inquiry, no new revolver, no AF…how could I say no?
Finally, I got an upgrade offer to go from my SkyMiles Platinum to a SkyMiles Reserve for 60k SkyMiles. Mind you, I've been in PUJ for all personal Amex cards since early 2023. I tried for the elevated Reserve SUB (125k) last month but was ineligible. So I said, f*ck it, I'll take it. Again, no new inquiry and no new revolver, so limited impact beyond the AF increase.
All-in-all, that's 375,000 points across all the cards but only 2 inquiries and 3 new accounts. I'm now at 6/24, but I'll drop to 3/24 again in August/September. This was probably my most active/lucrative spree since early 2023 when I first got into the credit card game (so I was sitting at 0/24 with no inquiries).
I'm definitely a fan of sprees rather than spreading out applications. This way my credit reports are stronger at the time of the spree since the new accounts aren't there yet and I can regain the "new recent revolver" points after 12 months of no new accounts.
Anyone else a fan of sprees? What was your craziest spree?
NOTE: I realize that appears to be a lot of spend, and it is, but it's all spend that was going to happen anyway:
- BILT Palladium: This was achieved with purely normal daily spend + car repairs, so spend that was going to have to happen anyway
- Strata Elite: This was almost entirely hit using my property tax payment
- AA Globe: This is almost entirely HOA dues and tax prep fees, plus an HOA special assessment installment payment and some work travel that'll be reimbursed
- SkyMiles Reserve: Entirely the remaining HOA special assessment plus one month's HOA dues
Anyone else do a credit card spree recently?
