I recently moved and now my main grocery store is BJ’s. I spend roughly $250-300 a month there and was looking at their credit card, the higher one being 5% back on groceries. The gas benefit is also nice but my location doesn’t have gas pumps which sucks.
My current setup is
C1 Venture X
C1 Savor
Amex Bonvoy Brilliant
Discover it
Navy Fed more rewards
So obviously BJ’s doesn’t code as groceries so I can’t use the savor with it.
So my dilemma is between using the VX for 2x points or getting the BJ’s card for 5%. With my grocery spend it would be between $150 to $180 in cash back a year. I have another card, my USB grocery card that does 5% on Apple Pay up to 3k a year which is nice since it’s a split between having some cash back and some miles rewards
5% is kinda the area where I’m not sure wether to go cash back or points. My floor for redemptions is 2cpp, often trying to get a little better than that. Would it make sense to just put my groceries on the VX, or should I get the BJ’s card

2 CPP is still only an effective 4% rate on VX.
I’d say go for 5%. Unless you’re consistently getting 2.5 CPP+ with a relative level of ease, 5% cash is probably better for your sanity.
FWIW, you can stack the Kroger cobrands if your yearly spending isn’t too high and just swap them around whenever you hit the cap.
