I can't believe this story hasn't been posted here yet.

Personally, I'm skeptical that this holds up over time, obviously the situation in this region is very fluid at the moment.

The implications here, even if this particular use of Bitcoin doesn't manifest or last long, are massive though. The US is waning in influence over control of global commerce, and we're quickly entering a much more contentious, multi-polar world.

Bitcoin has always been the obvious choice for a global reserve currency in such a scenario, and I think a lot of people who were sleeping on it as some worthless gimmick are in for a rude awakening.
