My lender emailed me asking if I lost my job last September (same month i bought the house).

    Her email says

    "Hi,

    Hope all has been well.

I'm reaching out regarding your transaction that closed in September.

The investor is showing that employment for you ended on 9/4/2025 which we didn't have knowledge of at the time closing occurred.

Can you confirm that employment ended with Company and the date?

If ended, did you obtain new employment after that?

Please advise so I can update the investor accordingly.

    Thank you,

    Lender"

I've been making payments so I dont see why it matters?

Why does it matter 8 months later if I lost my job?

They want to sell your mortgage. They need the info they have to be accurate.

    2. Be careful. If you went to closing after losing your job and didn’t tell them you could be guilty of fraud.

I wouldn’t confirm or deny anything about that. Just send proof of current employment

    3. And….what day in Sept did you close one your loan? Because if it was before Sept 4 (and Sept 1 was Labor Day), you would have been committing loan fraud by signing the document at closing that you were still employed. So….did you close on your house on Sept. 2, 3rd, or commit loan fraud? Those are the only options, and why she needs to know….

    4. they are not asking you whether you think it matters, they are looking for dishonesty or fraud and if you weren’t required to fess up to losing the job before you Closed.

    5. Sounds like you pulled a fast one on purpose. Assuming that is accurate and you need the game to continue, then you need to deflect them. My first step would be to ignore them. Then go from there. I sure wouldn’t answer their question directly.

    6. I would imagine they’re sniffing around to see if you committed fraud… so did you? Curious minds want to know.

    7. We need more context to give an helpful answer.

If you closed before Sept 4th you effed up and committed fraud.

But props to you if you’re not behind on payments and still don’t have a job.
