If we still have significant oil reserves, why is fracking such a major part of production in the US? Is it because conventional oil is declining, or because shale/tight oil was previously inaccessible? Fracking just feels like a more extreme extraction method, so I’m trying to understand whether it’s driven by scarcity, economics, or energy strategy.
