I don’t think anyone thought it would, but I didn’t see any solid data points yet.
Walmart+ gives access to Sam’s Club gas stations through Walmart Pay in the Walmart app. I have the OnePay Walmart card in my Walmart Pay. Only got 1.5% back. It appears like a wallet purchase rather than a Walmart purchase.
I was hoping that the layers here would have resulted in a loophole. But alas, it did not.

yeah this makes sense actually. the payment processor probably sees it as going through the wallet system rather than direct walmart purchase so it codes differently
i had similar thing happen with my chase card when using apple pay at target – even though i was physically at target the transaction coded as apple services or something weird like that. only got base rate instead of the category bonus i was expecting
these payment apps seem to mess up the merchant coding pretty regularly. its annoying because you think youre being smart with the loopholes but the backend systems dont cooperate. probably intentional on their part to prevent exactly what you were trying to do
