I am in Ontario Canada and last year in July we had a house fire. It was a total loss fire and we had to stay in a hotel for about 3 months afterwards until we were able to find a rental property. We have been in that same rental property since then, our insurance has our lease agreement and for the first while was paying us rent each month, sometimes sending 2 months rent in one payment. Last month, our adjuster went on vacation and did not issue this payment in time so we only received rent days after it was due. We had to pay out of pocket. The same situation is happening now. Our rent is due tomorrow and we have reached out about this with no response. I called my insurer today to ask if the funds have been issued and are just pending to be cleared and I was told that no payment had been triggered yet. I was told I can file a formal complaint and a manager would call me back within the next few days. This is genuinely ridiculous and I’m writing here to ask if there is literally anything else I can do to escalate this?

For some additional context, we have not had direct contact with our claim handler for months now as we hired a public adjuster. So when I say I am reaching out and asking about rent, it is to our public adjuster. This has truly been a nightmare. I don’t know if our claim handler is just doing this to be rude or is disorganized??? I don’t know what to think of any of this.
