Are digimon tokenised pokemon?

I used to think Digimon was cringe and hope Pokemon would sue Digimon so there would be no more Digimon taking up my tv time in the mornings before school.

Anyway, are Digimon like tokenised Pokemon or would you say they are native?

Prior to the show, Digimon was played using small tamagotchi blocks which would be physically linked together to interact, like an early form blockchain.
