I’m on vacation with a rental car (Hertz). I denied the rental insurance from hertz. However, I have my own insurance + I used a credit card that has auto rental collision damage waiver as a benefit.

Anyhow, i accidentally back into someone last night in a parking lot (my first “accident” ever). We exchanged info. I didn’t really do anything to the other persons car and don’t think they will be filing any claim. My rental car on the other hand is damaged.

It’s a 2026 Santa Fe. The tailgate has a good size dent. The back bumper also has a dent and is pushed in at the bottom

Unfortunately my wife hit someone about 5 months ago or so and was at fault. So, if I claim this on insurance it will be 2 at fault accidents within 6 months.

I’m worried about either getting dropped from my auto insurance and/or my premiums increasing a crazy amount.

Looking for some advice. My questions are:

    1. Any idea how much it could increase my premiums because of this?
    2. I’m thinking of asking hertz if I can just pay out of pocket and leave my insurance out of it completely. Any guess on what this would cost?
    3. What would you do? I have the money to cover whatever the cost is. But not sure if it’s worth covering / how much this would increase my premium (or worse get me dropped)
