I use bitcoin for purchases in china a lot and generally they like bitcoin I've never been ripped off always received my goods never had any issues .Now suddenly my bank who initially where a nightmare and I had to justify what I was doing spending my own money buying bitcoin then left me alone once the first few transfers happened and I'd stated I wouldn't hold them responsible for any lose have just issued this new policy

What are cryptocurrency scams?
There are many different scams involving cryptocurrency. A common scam involves fake investment platforms. These platforms can appear real. They often use familiar designs and features, like genuine investment platforms. But they're run by criminals who use them to steal money.
Why are we making these changes?
We’ve recently seen an increase in cryptocurrency scams. So, we’re changing our policy on cryptocurrency payments to help keep your money safe. We want to give you the choice to spend or invest your money how you wish, but we also have a duty to protect your money. We've made this decision with the best interests of all our customers in mind.
What is changing?
From 18 May 2026 we may block or refuse payments we identify as being made to cryptocurrency merchants. This may include payments to platforms that offer more than just cryptocurrency exchange, for example shares or savings accounts. This applies to payments made through: •online banking and mobile app •branches •our contact centre •your card. Your account terms and conditions will be updated and shared with you soon. We'll keep these measures under review and update you if things change.
