My daughter moved from a permit to a license in August 2025. We got the notice of renewal in early January 2026. Our policy renewed March 1st, 2026. There was no significant increase, to my surprise. On April 1st, the insurance company notified that there was a change in operator status, and our total premium doubled.
Here's my question: Isn't the insurance company supposed to gather the underwriting data ***prior*** to the renewal determination? Additionally, I had notified them in August 2025 of the change in status, but apparently it never got noted.
In NC, can an insurance company change your premium mid-policy because it failed to do due diligence?
