Seeking advice on how far I should pursue this.
Took out domestic travel insurance through Qantas/AIG for a 10 day holiday to Lord Howe Island. Waiting at the gate and the airline cancels the flight due to weather. We're sent home and the next day are told we will now go the following day. As a result we lose two nights accommodation plus additional taxi fares to and from the airport.
Travel agent says this is fairly common but not to worry and issues us a letter for insurance purposes stating the value of the two lost nights accommodation is $1010.
AIG have rejected our claim for both the lost accommodation we had pre paid and also the additional taxi fares.
Trying to get a straight answer from them is impossible as they just keep sending me reams of boilerplate fineprint
I've lodged an appeal however not holding out much hope.
If the appeal is rejected is there an insurance ombudsman or does the ACCC deal with insurance?
