I can’t tell if we just like the idea of the internet being open and distributed, or if it actually still is.
A huge number of websites run on Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
On top of that, a lot of apps, tools, and even AI services are built on the same underlying systems and APIs.
So while it looks like millions of independent websites and services, under the surface, it feels like a small number of companies are quietly holding most of it together.
If that’s true, then the internet might not really be decentralized anymore; it just appears that way from the outside.
What am I missing here?
The internet feels decentralized, but it might not be at all!
