I grew up in poverty.
My husband grew up in rural Pakistan with no electricity/running water/car, etc.
So neither of us had family help or an inheritance or anything.
I own a house worth $110k. I bought it in 2020. I owe $60k on it.
I have $5,065 in medical debt (I delivered a baby in October).
We paid off all credit cards.
We paid off all student loans (I have a B.S. and he has an M.S.).
We paid off all personal loans.
We paid off all car loans.
We own two cars outright, one worth $15k and one worth $14k.
We have $42k in liquid.
We have none saved in retirement, but I have a pension through my job.
I am 33 female. He is 35 male. We have one daughter, 6 months old. We are pregnant with our second.
I make $25 per hour and he makes $19 per hour. But he works overtime and I don’t, so my biweekly paycheck is ~$1,440 and his biweekly paycheck is around ~$1,900.
He works mornings and I work evenings, so we only need a babysitter from 3 pm to 5 pm Monday – Thursday. So we only pay the babysitter $400 per month. He is looking for a new job with earlier hours so we can eliminate the need for a babysitter altogether.
We live in the U.S. in Georgia, a low cost of living state.
How are we doing financially? Is this ok, you think? I know the retirement could be better.
Are we doing ok financially? Let me know if this is the wrong sub for this.
