Car wreck with no insurance

I was in an accident two days ago and honestly I know I messed up. I thought I had active insurance, so when the cop asked I gave him my insurance card and it came back valid at the scene. I admitted I was at fault because I crossed the center. Later when I tried to file a claim, I found out my policy had actually been canceled back in February 2026 for insufficient funds. It’s now May, and I genuinely thought autopay had been taking it out of my bank account every month. I hit another person’s vehicle and now I’m panicking because I don’t know what to do next. I’m worried about how to make this right, whether I’m going to have to pay everything out of pocket, and if I could get in legal trouble for unknowingly driving uninsured. I tried to speak to my insurance agent but it’s the weekend and they said they couldn’t help me since I’ve been uninsured and they had sent emails about my payment. Has anyone dealt with something like this before or know what steps I should take now? Please give me some advice I know I messed up so please don’t be rude I’m so stressed.
