My Green card is expiring soon, and the replacement has arrived. Unfortunately, this new card is a lot flimsier than the old one, to the point it feels cheap. It seems at some point in the last five years they've changed the plastic content from 70% "reclaimed" plastic to 94% "recycled" plastic. I looked around online and didn't see anything about Amex ending their partnership with Parley for the Oceans, and I know we certainly haven't run out of beached plastic to reuse.
The old card held up reasonably well through quite a bit of use. It's well traveled, but it's not deteriorating. The new one seems more like it will age closer to a Citi card, and a ragged, cracked Amex is not something I'm going to pull out at a business dinner. If I have to constantly order new plastic cards, that kind of defeats the purpose of making it environmentally "green."
Less of a gripe, more of an observation.
