The Background:
I am in Ontario and used to have my auto and home insurance with Pembridge (through PC Insurance as my broker). In August 2024, someone backed into my car, so had an auto claim (Not at fault) and in April 2025, I had an at-fault claim where I accidentally drove my car into my own garage, so it was filed as both an auto and a home claim.
A month later (May 2025), PC Insurance struck an exclusive deal with Aviva and forced all their clients to switch over to Aviva policies.
The Situation:
I’m looking at my new Aviva renewal documents. On the Auto policy, they only caught the not at fault claim.
However, the At-fault claims were missed (both home and auto). My home renewal still explicitly applies a "Claims Free Discount" and my premium actually went down.
My Question:
Should I report this missed claim to Aviva to have them fix my home and auto policy (which will definitely raise my rates)? Or should I just keep quiet and enjoy the discount since it was their administrative error during the switch?
My main worry is that if my house burns down in a few years, they might pull my old Pembridge file, accuse me of misrepresentation for keeping the "Claims Free Discount," and deny my claim. What would you do?
Insurer missed a past at-fault auto and home claim during a corporate switch. Should I report it? (Ontario)
