Hello again,
I wrote in here asking about whether I should go through my insurance or the third-party but now I’ve officially received the confirmation that my car is a total loss.
Now I’m beginning the argument phase of my claim. The car is a 2016 VW Passat S and the offered claim was 7.1k, 6.6k after deductible. I told him I would send comparisons of my own but they mentioned that it should be 150 miles within my zip code, same model, trim, year and only a 5k difference in mileage.
However, the comparisons in the report showed 2/4 of the cars were 2016 SEs, 240 miles away, with 20-40k more miles than mine. 1 of them was a 2017 Passat S within my area, 10k below my mileage, and finally a 2016 S within my area with 30k more miles.
And so I sent a (polite and professional) message back basically calling out the inconsistencies with what he wants me to abide by, sending comparable, matching trims, mileage, and distance he sent me, that showed listing price around 9.5k-10k, along with a receipt of brand new all season tires I put on it. (From what I hear tho the tires don’t matter).
I pretty much took a shot in the dark and said that a fair value is 9.5-10k but realistically am I going to get anything extra out of this? 6.6k ain’t gonna cut it since I still have to pay off the tires and the used car market is pretty bad right now.
