Whenever economic forecasts come up, I notice people tend to focus on the same headline data after it's already been released.

I've been trying to learn more about leading economic indicators and which ones investors actually find useful.

Some people seem to swear by the yield curve. Others focus on manufacturing data, credit spreads, housing activity, consumer sentiment, or employment trends.

If you had to narrow it down to just a few indicators that consistently help you understand where the economy might be headed, what would they be and why?

Which leading economic indicators do you pay the most attention to?
