We were hit with a severe storm a couple months ago, primarily hail damage (softball sized ). We received 5 quotes from contractors ranging from 65k to 100k to repair/replace. Because of the quotes we decided to file a claim. The first adjuster granted majority of the repairs for damage, but was way off on measurements (like a damaged wall marked as 500 sqft when it's 800). So we picked a contractor and let them submit a supplement to try and either get another adjuster to come out or use measurements from the supplemental doc. The second report came back *lower*, with pretty much the roof and one of two walls being the only damage being covered. They cited a cosmetic policy as the reason all the other damages that were peeviously going to be covered as now removed from consideration. We're not really sure where to go from here. Frankly, if we had known things like the garage doors, gutters, deck, etc weren't going to be covered we wouldn't have filed a claim, but the quotes for repairs were so high we thought we were doing the smart thing by using our insurancefor its intended purpose.
Is there anyway to fight this, or is cosmetic pretty much a done deal? If we accept the offer and 2 months from now it is readily apparent the damage was NOT just cosmetic, do we have any recourse? We know a public adjuster is an option but we don't know if it's even worth it to pursue with a cosmetic policy.
Difference between claim offer and lowest contractor bid (though not the one we picked) is about 30k.
Denial for cosmetic damage
