On Jan 6, investors reeled in the wake of the US killing of Iran’s top general, rattling both equities and commodity prices. Safe havens such as gold and the Japanese yen rallied. Gold soared to a near seven-year high. Oil prices breached $70 a barrel, with the Middle East crisis deepening supply disruption fears. Japan’s Nikkei fell 1.91% while South Korea’s KOSPI lost 0.98%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged down 0.79% and the Shanghai Composite ended largely flat.
